Mittens & Tea

Don't hands just look alien when photographed?
My attempt at "proper" knitting - by which I mean actually knitting with a purpose!

Made up pattern - cast on 30 stitches, knitted with Chunky Wool
Love them!

There was a Christmas Local Crafters Sale in Newlyn on Sunday - so I popped along.
Found this lovely little "Gadget Cosie" from the very talented Poppy Treffry
My new camera (Panasonic Lumix FP3) loves it!

Hope you are all staying warm in this cold snap!

My first wrist warmers...

I am calling them wrist warmers as I would certainly be playing a little fast and loose with the words glove, mitten or even fingerless gloves - but I am giving them a go.  This all started with a trip to M&S with my mum where we saw these lovelies.  They were super soft, super snugly but also super expensive.  Now you can tell my brain has started to turn crafty when the next words out of my mouth were "that is crazy, they would be so easy to make!!"

So - next stop is my local knitting shop!  ... 45 mins later (quite what we were doing I don't know) - I purchased some King Cole Mirage 872!

The gloves didn't have thumb holes, or fingers.  Basically just a knitted square sewn up one side with a hole left where the thumb sticks out!  So here I go....I have started!

I love how subtle these colours are...
I have done a few rows of rib at the bottom (my first RIB STITCH ever!)  and then plain stocking stitch.... I will finish off with a final few rows of RIB I think.... watch this space, it may take me a while

Randomness.... and THE SCARF!

So... here is the second scarf I have knitted with the Rico Can Can wool. The first was opened (with delight apparently) by my good friend Clare yesterday for her birthday - that one was Charcoal Grey!

Visitors & Knitting...

My Mum and Dad have been here for the past week - and luckily it has been LOVELY weather. Mum was desperate for a "paddle" in the sea - and we have managed it twice!!

We have had a lovely week - I have been working during the day, but we have managed a trip to Truro - with a lovely lunch, a couple of visits to the beach in the evenings, and some fish and chips on the sea front - what more do you need?

Yesterday Mum and I went into town for a bit of a mooch around (mainly to the knitting shop in town called Knit-Wits). They had just got a new yarn in called Can Can by Rico. It looks more like a mesh bias tape - but the lady showed us how to knit a lovely ruffle scarf... it looked easy enough (and you don't even need to cast on normally) so I took the plunge and bought two balls of it and have so far knitted about 3 feet!!! Here is a link to a YouTube video. I bought a lovely Teal colour, and loved the Charcoal Grey - unfortunately they didn't have any Grey left apart from the one they were using as a demo - they very graciously gave me £1 off if I was happy to take the already started one!!! (for me I would have added a £1 on to have got me started!!!!)

Thank Socks it's Friday

When my mum and dad came to stay at Christmas, she visited a local wool shop that she loves. She was told of a pattern to knit socks on two needles instead of four. Skeptically she purchased said pattern and I chose some wool - the first pair would be mine!!

Well - here they are, all the way from France - oh and she has nearly finished another pair already.

Possibly not the best photo in the world... don't they look fab though??

My new socks on... they are Very soft. Well Done Mum!!!
